De Futebol Wolves Promoted!

Wolverhampton is promoted to the EPL.

The Daily Mail:” Wolves’ players were given a heroes welcome as they enjoyed an open top bus parade to mark promotion to the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side stunned rivals this season with their impressive performances and were deserved title winners, finishing the campaign with 99 points.

With the curtain coming down on the season on Sunday, Wolves supporters lined the streets in their thousands to catch a glimpse of their idols and the new piece of silverware.

A rare defeat on the final day – a 3-0 defeat to relegated Sunderland – could do little to dampen the atmosphere in the city on Monday as attention turned to the carnival celebrations ahead.

The route began next to the art gallery at noon before heading past Waterloo Road and through to West Park where an estimated crowd of 30,000 waits to celebrate with the squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports News on top of the bus, boss Espirito Santo said: ‘Now we have to celebrate and then we rest then we think of targets for next season. The competition finished only yesterday.

‘It’s always different. I have experienced many moments but this is really special for everybody, it means a lot.

‘It’s about the players, the squad and the way they helped each other. It doesn’t have a name. The players had a task and they helped each other achieve that task.’

Diogo Jota added: ‘Unbelievable feeling. I think for a team to be champion you have to have something special and our group is a family and we achieve this together.

‘It means a lot for me (to play in the Premier League). I always watch the Premier League on the TV in Portugal and next season I will accomplish a dream.’

Many supporters were pictured with Portuguese flags to reference the cohort of new arrivals which have led the way to earn Premier League promotion.

Fans worked hard to get a vantage point of the celebrations and some resorted to standing on shop fronts and raised platforms to catch a glimpse.

Wolves will be joined in the Premier League by Cardiff next season as they secured automatic passage following a 0-0 home draw with Reading to ensure Neil Warnock’s eight promotion as a manager.
